The government has recently announced an updated set of regulations, called Boiler Plus, that will need to be adhered to with any new boiler install from April 2018. The regulations mean that there will be a higher set of energy efficiency measures on new boilers than seen in previous years.
All boilers installed from April 2018 onwards will need an ErP efficiency rating of 92% or higher. To put this into context, roughly a third of the boilers available now don’t meet that standard. At Heating Company, we’re committed to meeting this new criteria for our customers to help you save money in the long run.
What is Changing?
As well as a higher minimum efficiency rating all new gas and oil boiler installs must include something that was common, but not a requirement before; a programme timer and thermostat. These two elements will help people control their own heating.
Every combi boiler installed must also include one additional energy saving measure. You can choose from four energy-saving measures, which include:
Flue gas heat recovery systems:
– This system reuses wasted heat from the boiler and improves efficiency.
Load compensating thermostat:
– This adjusts radiator temperatures to be hotter when your home is cold and cooler when your home is closer to the set temperature. This could provide significant savings, especially if you end up leaving your heating on for long periods and therefore incur higher bills.
Weather compensating thermostat:
– Similar to a Load Compensating Thermostat, but they adjust the thermostat based on the temperature outside of your home.
– Allowing you to control your heating through a tablet or smartphone, even when away from your home, they perform many of the same functions as a programmable thermostat. It gives you the ease of checking your home temperature and making adjustments from a distance.
There’s a whole host of information out there on what this means and what it best for you, if you’re considering a new boiler, or are in a situation where you need to have one fitted as an emergency, our friendly team will help you choose the best solution for you and your household’s energy usage.
